With a Masters of Arts degree in Films from the New York University, Laurence Mark started his career as an executive trainee at United Artists, following which he assisted a producer until the mid-`70s. He then became a part of Paramount Pictures in its publicity and marketing department. Soon, Mark was promoted to become the company`s Vice President of West Coast marketing. Not long after the promotion, he went on to become the Vice President of Production at Paramount. Next, he became associated with 20th Century Fox and worked as its Executive Vice President of Production.
It was only in 1987 that he started producing movies after he established his own production house called Laurence Mark Productions, his debut venture as an executive producer being the noir thriller Black Widow. After making his debut, he went on to produce a string of movies, some of which are My Stepmother Is an Alien, Mr. Destiny, and Silo 3 Jane. Meanwhile, he also became associated with the television industry, producing either TV movies or episodes of certain shows. Among his television projects are The Wonderful World of Disney, These Old Broads, Political Animals, The Art of More, and When We Rise.
His 1996 romantic comedy-drama sports Jerry Maguire won him an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. The movie was a huge financial success, raking in over 273 million USD worldwide, and was also widely acclaimed for its cast`s performance. The following year, he was associated with another Academy Award-nominated movie As Good As It Gets in 1997. It was the 2006 Broadway musical that received as many as eight Academy Award nominations, making it the highest nominated movie of the year. Among his other credits are Julie & Julia, Last Vegas, Date and Switch, Flatliners, and The Greatest Showman.
