Cinematographer-turned-director, M.D. Sukumaran is known for his work in the Malayalam film industry. He began his career as a cinematographer in 1995 with the movie Thirumanassu. He has since then worked on movies such as Panchapandavar (1999), Sanmanasullavan Appukuttan (2009), Aakasmikam (2012), and Kaaththamma (2015).

Sukumaran turned writer and director in 2005 with the movie Ullam and directed his second movie a decade later titled Kaaththamma (2015). In 2017, he directed the movie Passu starring Kalasala Babu and Nandalal Krishnamoorthy.
