Award-winning American film, television and stage actress Mary-Louise Parker started out in showbiz with a minor role in the tv series Ryan`s Hope. Following her feature film debut in Signs of Life (1989), she announced her arrival in Broadway with a Tony Award-nominated performance in the play Prelude to a Kiss in 1990. Subsequently, Parker rose to prominence in Hollywood courtesy of her performances in movies like Grand Canyon (1991), The Client (1994) and Bullets over Broadway (1994).
Though she has an impressive body of work in cinema, Parker has delivered some of her best known and award-winning performances courtesy of acclaimed shows like West Wing (1999-2006), Angels in America (2003) and Weeds (2005-2012). While the political drama West Wing earned the actress her first Primetime Emmy Award nomination, she won it for her portrayal of the character Harper Pitt in the miniseries Angels in America (a role which also earned her the maiden Golden Globes Award of her career). In 2005, Parker essayed the main role of Nancy Botwin - a soccer mom who turns to marijuana dealing following the death of her husband - in the black comedy series Weeds. The show, which ran for eight seasons and over a hundred episodes, made Parker a household name around the world, and won the actress the second Golden Globe Award of her career besides earning numerous Emmy nominations.
