Hailing from New Zealand but born in Chennai, India, Mikey McCleary is a music composer who is mainly associated with Bollywood. Having studied Composition and Orchestration at the Wellington Conservatorium of Music and at Victoria University of Wellington, Mikey went on to work as a music composer in London at the Trident Studios. He went on to live in London for about fifteen years before moving Mumbai.
Currently based in Mumbai, the composer worked with Lucky Ali in his initial years in the industry and had the chance to frequently collaborate with the music maestro A.R. Rahman too. Mikey has released albums titled Classic Bollywood: Shaken not Stirred (2011), B Seventy (2013), and Classic Bollywood With A Twist (2014) under his stage name, The Bartender, all of which were dedicated to Bollywood songs from the '50s, '60s, and '70s.
While he is actively associated with movies, Mikey has also composed television advertising brands like Vodafone, Levi's, Audi, Titan, Coca-Cola, and Lakme. His first movie break came with the Gurinder Chadha-directed British comedy It's A Wonderful Afterlife in 2010, where he composed the music of the song 'Hai Mar Jawaan'. He went on to be associated with movies like Shaitan, David, Nautanki Saala, Chennai Express, Bombay Velvet, Margarita with a Straw, Waiting, Befikre, and Blackmail.
