Mickey Rourke is an American actor and boxer, known for his accomplishments in both fields. Growing up, Rourke made a name for himself in amateur boxing. After a series of small appearances in movies during the 1980s, Rourke became a professional boxer. He finally retired in 1994 after several national and international wins. Back on the big screen, Rourke played supporting roles in hit movies such as Francis Ford Coppola`s The Rainmaker (1997), Vincent Gallo`s Buffalo `66 (1998), Sylvester Stallone`s Get Carter (2000) and Sean Penn`s The Pledge.

Rourke gained recognition with his leading role in the 2005 movie Sin City. Three years later his performance in The Wrestler (2008) got him critical acclaim and several awards including a Golden Globe award, a BAFTA award, and an Academy Award nomination. He is also well known among popular culture for his portrayal of the main villain in Iron Man 2 (2010). In the same year, he had an appearance in Sylvester Stallone`s The Expendables. His more recent works include a reprisal of his character in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014), Tiger (2018) and Berlin, I Love You (2019).
