A versatile artist, Mir Afsar Ali is a radio jockey, TV anchor, comedian, actor, and singer who is widely known as the host of a stand-up comedy show called Mirakkel, which was aired on Zee Bangla. He is also quite popular for his work in the radio as the host of Hi Kolkata and Sunday Suspense, which was broadcast on Radio Mirchi.
Born in a conservative Bengali Muslim family, Mir Afsar Ali had a fascination for radio since a very young age and he would listen to the radio for hours. His foray in the entertainment business happened by chance as he came across an advertisement on a paper on his way home from college, which said auditions are being held for radio jockeys for a radio station, which is soon to be launched in Kolkata. He attended the audition and got selected.
During his stint as a radio jockey, he explored his comic side and started participating in various comedic shows side by side. His career took a major leap when he appeared on TV as a new reader on Khaash Khobor, a new program telecasted on DD Bangla. He later went on to host many TV shows like Hao Mao Khao, Beta Betir Battle, and Mirakkel, which established him as the Comedy King of the city.
After a successful stint in TV and radio, Mir Afsar Ali made his debut as an actor on the silver screen with The Bong Connection (2006). His other notable film credits include Bhooter Bhabishyat (2012), Obhishopto Nighty (2014), Colkatay Columbus (2016), Dekh Kemon Lage (2017), Michael (2018), Abar Basanta Bilap (2018), Happy Pill (2018) and Rawkto Rawhoshyo (2020).
