A career spanning over two decades, Rakesh started out as an assistant director and worked on films like Ramanathapuram (2011), Bahubali (2015) and Bahubali: The Conclusion (2017). He made his directorial debut with the 2016 film Tharle Nan Maklu, followed by Patibeku.com (2018).
