About
The multifaceted Nacio Herb Brown was an American songwriter and movie composer known for his work in the Hollywood Golden age. He was into the tailoring business, before becoming a realtor and then eventually establishing himself as a composer. Brown was known for his collaborations with lyricist Arthur Freed. His songs were used in movies like The Broadway Melody (1929), A Woman Commands (1932), Peg o' My Heart (1933), San Francisco (1936), After the Thin Man (1936), Andy Hardy Meets Debutante (1940), A Date with Judy (1948), Invitation (1952), The Boy Friend (1971) and A Clockwork Orange (1971). Arguably, Brown's most famous song 'Singin' in the Rain' was written Arthur Freed and he composed the music. The song has been used multiple times, but most famously in the 1952 movie of the same name, 25 years after it was originally conceived. He was married five times, most famously to American film actress, Anita Page. But each one ended in a divorce. Brown was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. He passed away on September 28, 1964, at the age of 68.
