Nelson Coates is an Emmy Award winning American production designer and set designer for film, television, and theater. He is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. His well known works include movies and TV shows like CB4 (1993), Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995), Murder at 1600 (1997), Kiss the Girls (1997), Living Out Loud (1998), Stir of Echoes (1999), Antwone Fisher (2002), Runaway Jury (2003), Aquamarine (2006), School for Scoundrels (2006), October Road (2007–2008), The Proposal (2009), The Last Song (2010), Big Miracle (2012), Flight (2012), The Guilt Trip (2012), Secret in Their Eyes (2015) and Fifty Shades Darker (2017). He won the Emmy for his work on Mick Garris’ mini-series, The Stand (1994). Coates is the production designer for Denise Di Novi’s movie, Unforgettable (2017). The movie cast includes Rosario Dawson, Katherine Heigl and Geoff Stults.
