Nick Remy Matthews, ACS, is a British-born, Australian-raised director of photography, director and writer based in Europe. In 2020, he was named Cinematographer of the Year by the Australian Cinematographers Society, and was also named by Variety as one of the "10 Cinematographers to Watch" in 2019 for his work on Hotel Mumbai, a factual action drama depicting the Mumbai terror attacks, directed by long-time collaborator Anthony Maras. The film stars Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, Suhail Nayyar, Jason Isaacs, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Tilda Cobham-Hervey, and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018, where Matthews was singled out for praise for his work on the film.

In 2017, Matthews photographed The Chaperone for PBS and Masterpiece in New York City, the tale of a 1920s silent movie actress, Louise Brooks, played by rising star Haley Lu Richardson, with Elizabeth McGovern, Blythe Danner, and Campbell Scott also starring. The film opened in limited release in the US in March 2019.

Matthews' directorial debut feature, the psychological drama thriller One Eyed Girl, premiered at the 2014 Austin Film Festival, where he and co-writer Craig Behenna won the Dark Matters Jury Prize. In 2005, he photographed, produced, and co-edited Murali K. Thalluri's feature film 2:37, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section in 2006.

In 2023, Matthews directed the second unit of Alex Parkinson's true-story action film Last Breath, starring Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu. In 2010, he won an AFI Award for his cinematography on the short film The Kiss, directed by Ashlee Page, and in the same year photographed Anthony Maras's AFI award-winning short The Palace, having earlier collaborated with Maras on his other AFI-winning short, Spike Up.

His filmography also includes SAS: Red Notice, Love, Weddings & Other Disasters, Furia, The Seventh Day, I.S.S., The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, Furia: The Resurrection, and Gangs of London.

His honours include the 2020 Australian Cinematographer of the Year award for Hotel Mumbai; a 2019 Variety "10 Cinematographers to Watch" recognition, also for Hotel Mumbai; the 2015 Beverly Hills Film Festival Best Film Audience Choice Award for One Eyed Girl; the 2014 Austin Film Festival Dark Matters Jury Award, also for One Eyed Girl; a 2010 AFI Award for Outstanding Achievement in Short Film Craft for The Kiss; Best Cinematography honours at the 2011 and 2012 Flickerfest International Short Film Festival for Collision and The Kiss; the 2011 PANAVISION Best Cinematographer award at New Zealand's Show Me Shorts Film Festival, also for The Kiss; the 2012 St Kilda Film Festival award for Best Achievement in Cinematography for Paper Planes; and Golden Tripod awards from the Australian Cinematographers' Society National Awards in 2007 and 2012, for Azadi and The Palace.
