Being listed on Times Most Desirable 50 Women of 2013, Niharica Raizada, who hails from the family of the legendary music composer O. P. Nayyar,
(her grandfather) made her debut in the Bengali film Damadol
(2013). Her item number in the movie was much appreciated with Manoj Michigan
, the director of the movie, stating that: "I wanted someone who`d look different from a typical item girl. Niharica came in as a breath of fresh air. We rehearsed for three days. And the best part was getting Saswata Chatterjee on board as he matched steps with Niharica." Niharica, since then, has appeared in several Hindi movies.
The actress grew up in one of the richest countries in the world, Luxembourg and then went to the UK for further studies. She studied Translational Medicine in Imperial College London, and later specialized in Cardiology research at John Hopkins University (USA) under a Fullbright scholarship. However, Niharica was more inclined towards acting and later took training from the New York Film Academy.
It`s a family tradition to be trained in the performance arts. But, my calling lies in front of the camera as opposed to behind it. I like to be in the limelight and acting is what I want to do."
- said Niharica later in a TOI interview in 2014.
Besides acting, Niharica is also trained in western classical music and ballet. She was crowned Miss India UK 2010 and in the same year, she was also the first runner-up of Miss India Worldwide.
The French-speaking actress ventured into films with the Bengali movie Damadol in 2013. Niharica appeared in the item number, Gorom Cha. She made her Hindi film debut in 2014 with the movie 6-5=2 directed by Bharat Jain. The movie which is one of the first Hindi horror films in the `Found Footage Genre`, received average reviews at the box office. Niharica later appeared in movies such as Masaan
(2015), and Baby
Niharica`s 2016 release includes the movie Warrior Savitri,
a modern-day adaption of the popular fable, Satyavan Savitri. This is the actress` first lead role as she portrays the title role of Savitri in the film. Her other releases for the year include Var to NRI J, a Gujarati movie, and Full 2 Jugadu. In 2020, she appeared in the film Sooryavanshi
directed by Rohit Shetty
and starring Akshay Kumar
in the lead role.
