Musician, playback singer, composer and sitarist Niladri Kumar`s discography features a number of albums and feature films in Bollywood. A recipient of the MTV Immies Award for Best Classical/Fusion Instrumental, he is also credited with the creation of an instrument named zitar, which is a hybrid between sitar and guitar. Together (2001), Sitar Gaze (2005), Zitar (2008), Plucked (2013) and Sur Yajna (2014) are some of the popular albums composed by the musician.
As a sitarist, Kumar has associated with various music directors in Bollywood, including
A.R. Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Some of his works as an instrumentalist can be heard in passages from hit songs like Chup Chup Ke from Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Crazy Kiya Re from
Dhoom 2 (2006) and Tere Naina from
My Name is Khan (2010). Besides these, Kumar has also served as a playback singer in films like Maazii (2013) and
Sarkar 3 (2017). Notable movie credits as a music director include the political thriller Shorgul (2016), the Kannada romantic drama Niruttara (2016) and the Bollywood romantic drama
