Born in Chennai and raised in Bangalore, Nithya Shri is a model, dancer, and actress. She has played a role in hundreds of stage shows, including one production of Mughal-e-ezam (2016). After several stints with commercials and short films, she found her big break, through a role in Mani Ratnam`s Kaatru Veliyidai (2017). She was later featured in Bejoy Nambiar`s Solo (2017) and assisted him in the direction as well. In 2019 she made her debut in the Kannada film industry by playing the lead role in Vrithra - a film revolving around a female cop. She got the opportunity when the film crew members just happened to spot her Instagram profile. She watched documentaries on police officers and spoke to cops in order to prepare for the role.
