Nora Ephron was an American author, screenwriter, producer and filmmaker. In the course of an illustrious career spanning close to four decades, she served as a screenwriter for 13 films, directed 8 films and was nominated thrice for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. After briefly interning at the White House and subsequently establishing a successful career as a reporter and columnist, Ephron ventured into Hollywood in 1983, by penning the screenplay for the biographical drama Silkwood. Her work in the film earned Ephron an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay that year. After associating as a screenwriter on acclaimed films like When Harry Met Sally (1989) and My Blue Heaven (1990), she made made her directorial debut with the drama film This is My Life in 1992. In the years that followed, Ephron directed several critically acclaimed and commercially successful comedy-drama films, notably Sleepless in Seattle (1993), You`ve Got Mail (1998) and Julie and Julia (2009). The BAFTA Award winning writer-director also wrote several essays, a novel and a handful of plays in the course of her career, significant among which are Heartburn (1983 novel), Love, Loss, and What I Wore (2002 play) and I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman (2006 collection of essays). Other notable film credits include Heartburn (1986), Michael (1996), Lucky Numbers (2000) and Bewitched (2005), Julie & Julia (2009)
