Paul Laverty is a Scottish lawyer and scriptwriter. He has a Degree in Law from the University of Glasgow. Laverty made his writing debut with the 1996 movie, Carla`s Song, which was directed by Ken Loach. Laverty and Loach made several movies together like, My Name Is Joe (1998), Bread and Roses (2000), Sweet Sixteen (2002), Ae Fond Kiss... (2004), The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006), It`s a Free World... (2007), Looking for Eric (2009), Route Irish (2010), The Angels Share (2012) and Jimmy`s Hall (2014).

Laverty`s other works as a writer include Even the Rain (2010) and The Olive Tree (2016). In 1998, he won British Independent Film Award for the screenplay for My Name is Joe and the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay for Sweet Sixteen in the year 2002. Laverty also wrote the 2016 movie, I, Daniel Blake, which was directed by Ken Loach. It went on to win the Palme d`Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the 2017 BAFTA for Outstanding British Film, and the Prix du public at the 2016 Locarno International Film Festival.
