Peter Jackson is a film director, producer and scriptwriter from New Zealand. He is most famous for his work as director on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit films. Peter came to prominence with the release of his film Heavenly Creatures (1994), which was a critical success. He then directed Forgotten Silver (1995) and The Frighteners (1996). In 1997, he won the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise and helmed The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), followed by The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003). Peter then directed the remake of his favorite childhood film, King Kong (2005), which was a smash hit at the box office. Following the success of the Lord of the Rings franchise and King Kong, Peter then directed The Lovely Bones (2009). He has also produced many films, including The Adventures of Tintin (2011). He then returned to J.R.R Tolkien`s book, The Hobbit, and decided to make a trilogy of the books. Peter was the director for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2012), the highly anticipated The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) and Mortal Engines (2018). Jackson has won three Academy Awards in his career and has been nominated for nine Academy Awards overall. He has also received a Golden Globe, four Saturn Awards and three BAFTA amongst others for his work.
