Having been a part of the Indian film industry for over four decades, Pranaya Murthy is an actor, who is mainly seen playing supporting roles. First seen on the big screen in 1978, Murthy went on to feature in about 50 movies in his long-standing career, some of which are Narada Vijaya, Nannavaru, Anuraga Aralithu, Thayigobba Tharle Maga, Maha Edabidangi, Prem Kahani, Yakka, Simpallag Ond Love Story, Flop, and Operation Alamelamma.

In 2018, he appeared alongside MS Jahangir and Rockline Sudhakar in R Vinoda Kumar`s Kannada comedy drama Ayyo Rama. His 2019 releases include Chemistry of Kariyappa, Ammana Mane, Gnanam and Navaratri. His other projects includes 5 Adi 7 Angula (2020) and Gadiyara (2020).
