Writer-director Prashanth Neel debuted in Kannada cinema with the action-thriller Ugramm (2014), which featured Srii Murali and Hariprriya in the lead roles. A sensational critical and commercial success, Ugramm`s theatrical run lasted for over a 100 days, and Prashanth won the SIIMA Award for Best Debut Director that year. Besides this, he was also nominated in the Best Director category at the Filmfare Awards (South) and SIIMA Awards for his work in the movie.

In 2018, Prashanth made his sophomore directorial outing with the Yash starrer KGF, which he also wrote.
