Prattyush Banerjee is one of the foremost sarod players of his generation who has also made his mark as a music composer-arranger, instrument designer and teacher. He is a leading disciple of Padmabhushan Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta, and a worthy torchbearer of the Senia-Shahjahanpur gharana. Besides featuring at major Indian music festivals in India and abroad, Banerjee has performed at the Bach Festival in Belgium and the MTV Coke Studio. His sarod pieces for films such as 'Piku' and 'Madras Cafe' have been acclaimed in all quarters. He has conducted the ''Tagore Songs in A Thousand Voices'' concerts three times in a row. Several of his albums have received the GIMA and Radio Mirchi Awards. He has brought about several physical changes in the traditional sarod and has created its first electric version, the Jyotidhwani. He was a research consultant at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata where he has published many articles and journals on music. He has been honoured with the The Outstanding Young Person of the Year Award in 2003, the Sangeet Ratna Award in 2011 and the Batuk Nandi Smriti Puraskar in 2015.
As a producer, Banerjee has worked for more than 75 albums to his credit. He has conducted the Rabindra Sangeet concerts featuring a thousand voices three times in a row. Several of his albums have received the Radio Mirchi and GIMA awards.
