Ranjon Ghoshal is an eminent theatre personality of Bangalore and has been one of the proponents of English theatre in the city for nearly 40 years. He was born in a small town named Memari, Burdwan District, West Bengal, in 1955. He has been involved in over 20 plays, spanning more than 130 shows. He has directed works by Badal Sircar, Manoj Mitra, Bertolt Brecht, Arun Mukhopadhyay and Samuel Beckett, to name just a few. Apart from direction, he along with his wife Sangeeta and close friend Utkal Mohanty, have translated various Bengali plays into English. He is an active member of the Bangalore theatre scene, directing and performing plays in English with Forum Three, a theatre collective operating out of Bangalore for the last 38 years, pushing the city's theatre scape towards new horizons in production values, content and inclusive community spirit.
Ranjon Ghoshal was also a founding member of the Bengali band Moheener Ghoraguli and ran an advertising agency Mareech Advertising. He is a first cousin of Gautam Chattopadhyay, with whom he founded what is arguably Bengal's and India's first band in 1975. Ranjon was the presenter of the band and contributed immensely to the lyrics. He also handled all media interaction, the artwork of the records, cover designing and publicity material.
Ranjon's home in Bangalore, The Yellow Submarine, is a focal point for many intellectuals and artists in the city.
Ranjon has been writing poetry and fiction in both Bengali and English. He scripts for films and stage plays. Ranjon has started nurturing and grooming brands under a nascent venture, and Mind It!
