Filmmaker and screenwriter Reema Kagti is best known for helming acclaimed Bollywood films like
Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007) and
Talaash (2012), both of which she penned and directed. She started out in cinema as an assistant director, working in cult classic movies like
Lagaan (2001) and
Dil Chahta Hai (2001) early on in her career. Reema has also been an integral feature of Excel Entertainment films over the years, having assisted
Farhan Akhtar and
Zoya Akhtar in many of their directorial ventures. Among these are the war-drama
Lakshya (2004) and the buddy road film
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011). Besides these, she has also assisted
Mira Nair in the historical drama
Vanity Fair (2004), and penned the screenplay for movies like
Bombay Talkies (2013) and
Dil Dhadakne Do (2015).
Following her critically acclaimed debut as a writer-director in the comedy-drama Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007), Reema directed
Aamir Khan,
Rani Mukerji and
Kareena Kapoor Khan in the mystery thriller Talaash in 2012. The movie, which followed the story of a police officer`s quest to solve a strange murder while trying to cope with the untimely death of his son, was well-received by the audience and the critics alike. Talaash grossed over 1.7 billion INR at the box office, and currently holds an 83% approval rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
In 2018, Reema made her third outing as a writer-director with the historical sports drama
Gold, which chronicled the story behind India`s first ever Olympic gold medal as a free nation. Co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and
Ritesh Sidhwani, Gold featured an ensemble cast headed by
Akshay Kumar. Her 2019 release includes Gully Boy.
