Ritesh Batra is an Indian director who is best known for directing the critically acclaimed movie The Lunchbox starring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film went on to win several international accolades, including the Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Feature Film in 2014. The Lunchbox was also nominated for in the Best Film, not in the English Language category at the BAFTA Awards 2015 and the Rail d`Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Batra began his career by writing and directing short films after he dropped out of the film school. Before making his feature debut, he directed the short films The Morning Ritual (2008), Gareeb Nawaz`s Taxi (2010) and Cafe Regular, Cairo (2011). The Arab language short film, Cafe Regular, Cairo went on to win the Critics Prize (FIPRESCI) Best Film at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen.
In 2013, he also directed the short film Masterchef. His 2017 release includes the British-American drama movie The Sense of an Ending starring Jim Broadbent, Harriet Walter, Charlotte Rampling, Michelle Dockery, and Emily Mortimer. His 2019 release includes Photograph.
