Robin Swicord, born in 1952 in Columbia, South Carolina, US is an American writer, producer, and playwright well known for her efforts for bringing female-oriented stories to the silver screen. She is a renowned Hollywood writer well known for her work in Matilda, Practical Magic, The Red Coat, and You Ruined My Life. In 2009 the screenplay for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, credited to Swicord (story) and Eric Roth (story and screenplay) and based on the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay. Swicord also wrote the screenplay for the film Memoirs of a Geisha, based on the novel of the same name by Arthur Golden, for which she won a 2005 Satellite Award. Her directorial debut was the 1993 short film The Red Coat, for which she also wrote the screenplay. The film was about her grandmother and starred Theresa Wright and Bridget Fonda.

Swicord wrote the screenplay for Karen Joy Fowler`s 2004 novel The Jane Austen Book Club and directed the film, which was released in the United States on September 21, 2007. The film was her feature film debut. For over 10 years, Swicord worked on the screen adaptation of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The project had been in development by producer Ray Stark for 20 years before she began working on the script. Eventually, David Fincher directed the film and Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett starred in the main roles. In 2020, she was the producer on the Greta Gerwig directed, Oscar-Nominated, Romantic Drama Little Women.
