Starting his career in the entertainment industry with made for TV movies like When Your Lover Leaves (1983) and Scandal Sheet (1985), Roger Birnbaum is an American film producer and production manager. He owns Spyglass Entertainment, an American film production company which is currently inactive. Birnbaum was the co-CEO and co-Chairman of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, before stepping down in 2012. He has also been the president of the Guber/Peters Company, the president of worldwide production for United Artists, and the executive vice president of Twentieth Century Fox. Birnbaum made his debut as a film producer with the 1985 Rob Reiner romantic-comedy, The Sure Thing. The movie was a hit with the audience and the critics praised it as well. Over the years Birnbaum has produced movies like Angels in the Outfield (1994), While You Were Sleeping (1995), Grosse Pointe Blank (1997), G.I. Jane (1997), Rush Hour (1998), Shanghai Noon (2000), Unbreakable (2000), The Count of Monte Cristo (2002), The Recruit (2003), Shanghai Knights (2003), The Hitchhiker`s Guide to the Galaxy (2005), The Lookout (2007), Rush Hour 3 (2007), 27 Dresses (2008), Flash of Genius (2008), The Vow (2012), and The Magnificent Seven (2016). As a producer Birnbaum`s greatest ventures were the comedy crime-action movie, Rush Hour 2 (2001) and the romantic mystery-thriller, The Tourist (2010).
In 2018 Birnbaum produced director Eli Roth`s vigilante thriller, Death Wish. The movie is a remake of the 1974 Michael Winner movie of the same name, with Charles Bronson in the lead. Both the movies are based on the 1972 novel of the same by Brian Garfield. His 2019 release includes The Hustle, directed by Chris Addison.
