S. J. Suryah is an Indian actor and director who works in the Tamil and Telugu film industries. He made his directorial debut with the film Vaali (1999). Some of his popular woks include the films Kushi (2000), New (2004), Anbe Aaruyire (2005) and Isai (2015), Iraivi (2016). His 2017 release includes Nenjam Marapathillai and Spyder, a Telugu-Tamil bilingual film featuring the Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles and directed by A.R. Murugadoss. His 2017 release includes Mersal, an action film directed by Atlee Kumar. His 2021 release includes Maanaadu.

  • Before making a mark in the film industry, filmmaker and actor S. J Suryah, worked in hotels and as a steward to make his ends meet.
  • After watching the premiere show of the movie Vaali, producer A. M. Rathnam offered filmmaker Suryah to work on the movie Kushi, which was later released in 2000 and went on to become a box office hit.
  • In 2005, filmmaker and actor Surya was arrested for allegedly throwing a mobile phone at one of the women censor board officials during the controversy of his film Naani.
