One of the most prolific and feted writers in contemporary Tamil literature, S. Ramakrishnan has also made his mark in Kollywood through his screenplays. In a literary career spanning over 25 years, he has penned nine novels and over twenty short story collections, besides a number of published articles and essays. He has also been honoured by the Tamil Nadu Government, in addition to winning the Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award for Best Young Playwright in 1993 and the Tagore Literary Award in 2010.
As a screenwriter, Ramakrishnan has made his mark in Tamil cinema through the action drama Sandakozhi (2005), the crime-thriller Bheemaa (2008) and the comedy-drama Avan Ivan (2011). In 2018, he co-wrote the screenplay for Sandakozhi 2, which was a sequel to the eponymous 2005 movie and starred Vishal Krishna Reddy in the lead role. His other releases includes Manmadhudu 2, Modhi Vilayadu, Avan Ivan, Rana, Sameer and Sandakozhi 2.
