A well-known TV and film personality in the Odia film industry, Samaresh Routray is an actor, and producer who is noted for mostly portraying negative roles onscreen. The two-time Tarang Cine Awards winner, Samaresh started his career acting career in films with a small role in the Bollywood film, 23rd March 19131: Shaheed in 2002.

Post his maiden appearance on the big screen, Samaresh took a sabbatical for four years and he later made his debut in the Odia film industry with Mo Suna Pua (2006). He got his big break in the Odia film industry with Dhauli Express, which won the Odisha State Film Award for Best Film. His other notable films include Loafer (2011), Akhire Akhire (2014), Sweetheart (2016) and Lalijo Lalijo (2018), a Telugu horror thriller directed by Mohan Srivatsasa.

Apart from films, Samaresh has also worked extensively in the TV industry; he has hosted many Odia TV shows and starred in Odia series'. Some of his notable credits on the small screen include Uttardai (2006-08), Basundhara (2008-09), Mu Cinema (2013), and Satya Aprad (2014).
