An Indian art director and production designer Samir Chanda is well-known for his body of work predominantly in Bollywood as well as Bengali, Malayalam and Tamil cinema. Starting off as an assistant to reputed art director Nitish Roy, he worked in films like Shyam Benegal's Mandi (1983). Eventually, he held an independent position as a production designer when he worked on Subhash Ghai's Ram Lakhan in 1989. His other notable credits include commercially successful films like Dil Se (1998), Zubeidaa (2001), Mr Ya Miss (2005), Krrish, Omkara for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Art Direction, Rang De Basanti in 2006, the Tamil film Dasavathaaram, Ghajini in 2008, Kaminey (2009), and 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), among several others. Chanda tragically passed away in 2011 due to a cardiac arrest caused by a painkiller reaction.
