A protege of Sarangi maestro Ustad Sultan Khan, musician, film score composer and playback singer Sandesh Shandilya first rose to prominence in 2001, when his album `Piya Basanti`p won the International Viewers` Choice Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. In the same year, he got his big break in Bollywood when he scored the music for the blockbuster ensemble family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). Since then, Sandesh has served as the music director for several popular movies, notable among which are Jab We Met (2007), Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) and Manjhi - The Mountain Man (2015). Other significant works in recent times include Chalk N Duster (2016), Vodka Diaries (2018) and Bioscopewala (2018). His 2020 release includes Shikara, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
