Sergio Gutierrez Sanchez is a Spanish film director and screenwriter, who made his debut as a script writer with The Orphanage in 1996. He initially wanted to direct the script. However, he was repeatedly rejected for the same by numerous Spanish companies. Sanchez met with director Juan Antonio Bayona while he was working on the short film 7337 and offered him the script. The film directed by Bayona became a huge hit and Sanchez was nominated for the Best Screenplay at the 2008 Goya Awards in Spain. He later teamed up with the same director in The Impossible (2012). He is well-known for his directorial work in short films Temporada Baja (2003), 7337 (2000) before he dove into Marrowbone.
