Arguably one of the most successful and popular musical trios in India, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have won numerous prestigious awards for their compositions and have given the Hindi film industry some of the most hit numbers. The trio consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa is often referred to as the `Amar Akbar Anthony` of the Hindi music industry by several eminent film critics including Rajeev Masand.
The trio, in their illustrious career, which spans over two decades has composed more than 50 songs across different languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and English. Along the way, they have won many awards including a National Film Award, an IIFA Award, and a Filmfare Award. Apart from being successful as a trio, the individual members have a very successful solo career in the music industry.
The trio, before making it big in the film industry performed at various stage shows and they mostly performed rock, jazz, pop, and blues. The trio got their big break in the film industry with Mission Kashmir in 2000. Although the film was not well received by the critics, the music was well appreciated by all and the song `Bumbro` became a huge hit. For their brilliant composition, the trio won two IIFA nominations.
The trio delivered one of the biggest hits of their career the following year when they collaborated with Farhan Akhtar for his directorial debut, Dil Chahta Hai. The film and the music both not only won the hearts of the audience but also won many awards. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy won their maiden Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent as well as the Star Screen Award for Best Music Director.
Post the huge of Dil Chahta Hai, the trio ventured out in other industries and composed for regional language films even as they continued to deliver outstanding compositions in Hindi films. Their compositions in Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Lakshya (2004), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Taare Zameen Par (2007), Rock On!! (2008), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) was well received and was a massive hit among the masses. Their 2018 release includes Soorma, a Hindi biographical sports drama based on the life of the former Indian National Men`s Hockey player, Sandeep Singh. Their other releases include Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019), Gully Boy (2019), Mere Pyare Prime Minister (2019), Chhapaak (2020) and Panga (2020).
