Sharmin Segal initially wanted to become a doctor but was struck by an interest in acting when she was in college. To pursue the interest, she took up the role of assistant director to her uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She claimed that he was strict with her, which pushed her to do better. During that time she worked on films like Ram-Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015), but soon realised she was more attracted to acting. After getting trained in film school, she auditioned for Mangesh Hadwale`s Malaal (2019) and bagged the lead role. She appears alongside Meezaan, Javed Jaffrey`s son.
