Shaukat Azmi is a Indian actress and social activist. She is the mother of noted actress Shabana Azmi. Shaukat is known for portraying the role of Khannum Jaan in the film Umrao Jaan (1981), which was later played by her daughter Shabana in 2006 remake. Azmi is also known for her work in other blockbuster films such as Garm Hawa (1974) and Salaam Bombay! (1988).
