In the course of a showbiz career spanning over four decades, Siu-Tung Ching has proven his versatility as a filmmaker, actor, producer and action choreographer. He started out in the 1970s as an actor and stunt choreographer, and subsequently made his directorial debut in 1982 with the acclaimed wuxia film Duel to the Death. Ching has since helmed over 20 feature films besides venturing into international cinema as an action choreographer.

Among the filmmaker's most celebrated works are the romantic comedy horror film A Chinese Ghost Story (1987) and the fantasy comedy adventure film A Terracotta Warrior (1989), the latter of which was nominated for a Golden Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival that year. Notable film credits as a stunt director include Shaolin Soccer (2001), the Indian sci-fi superhero movie Krrish (2006) and the Chinese war drama Curse of the Golden Flower (2006). The historical drama An Empress and the Warriors (2008) and the action fantasy The Emperor and the White Snake (2011) are among Ching's most recent directorial ventures.
