Sofia Coppola is an award-winning American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and actress. The daughter of iconic filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, she started out as a child artist, appearing in uncredited roles in The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather II (1974). Coppola made her feature film directorial debut with the 1999 drama film The Virgin Suicides, and has since written and directed a number of critically acclaimed films. Some of her best-known works are Lost in Translation (2003), which won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, and the 2017 drama film The Beguiled, for which she won the Best Director Award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Other significant film credits include Marie Antoinette (2006), Somewhere (2010) and The Bling Ring (2013). Besides these, Coppola has also acted in films like Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), The Godfather Part III (1990), Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) and CQ (2001). She is also the first American woman to win a Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
