A Web-designer-turned-filmmaker, Sohanlal is an Indian director and writer who is known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He began his career in 1996 as a scriptwriter and production assistant with Doordarshan. After being associated with Doordarshan for four years, he subsequently went on to work with Indiavision, Middle East Television, Jeevan TV and Amrita TV.

It was in 2006, while he was still working with Amrita TV that Sohanlal got recognition for the TV film Neermaathalathinte Pookal. He earned critical acclaim for his direction and even received the Kerala State Award for Best Director. Three years later, Sohanlal made his feature directorial debut with the movie Orkkuka Vallappozhum starring Thilakan. He repeated his success of the TV film and went on to win the Kerala Critics Association Award for Best Debut Director. In 2013, he released the movie Kadhaveedu. He has also contributed as a lyricist to movies such as Thaalolam (2009), Mazhanritham (2012), Kadhaveedu (2013), and Konthayum Poonoolum (2014).

In 2017, he made his acting debut with the movie Karutha Joodhan directed by Salim Kumar.
