Somlata Acharjya Chowdhuri was born in a family of erstwhile zamindars. Her father Shyamal Acharyya Chowdhury is the descendant of the Muktagachha zamindar family of Mymensingh, while her mother's ancestral home was in Noakhali. In her childhood, she started training in Indian classical music under Pandit Biresh Roy from the age of nine. Somlata sang her first playback for the crossover film Perfect Woman in 2007. Her first solo album Chupkotha released in 2009, and her last release is 'Aami achi er majhe'. She has provided voice-over s in movies like 'Cross Connection', 'Bedroom', 'Elar Char Adhyay', 'Dutta vs Dutta', 'Bojhe Na Se Bojhe Na' and 'Bela Seshe'.
