Oscar-winning screenwriter Stanley Shapiro`s illustrious Hollywood career spanned over three decades, during which he penned over a dozen movies besides producing several. Between his Hollywood debut in 1953 and demise in 1990, Shapiro was nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay; for the films Operation Petticoat (1959), Pillow Talk (1959), Lover Come Back (1961) and That Touch of Mink (1962). Of these, his work in the romantic comedy Pillow Talk won the writer an Oscar in 1960.

Some of Shapiro`s other notable screenwriting credits include the comedies Bedtime Story (1964), How to Save a Marriage and Ruin Your Life (1968), For Pete`s Sake (1974) and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988). The last of these was remade in 2019 as the comedy film The Hustle, which starred Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson in the lead roles.
