About
Steven Rodney Mcqueen, popularly known as Steve McQueen, is an Oscar-winning British filmmaker and screenwriter. He first came to public attention through several acclaimed short films, and subsequently made his directorial debut with the historical drama Hunger (2008). The film, starring Michael Fassbender, opened to near-universal critical acclaim and won the prestigious Golden Camera Award and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival that year.

This was followed by the drama film Shame (2011), which followed the life of a successful New York executive who harboured a dark secret. Shame (2011) was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best British Film that year. In 2013, the director helmed the period drama 12 Years a Slave, which chronicled the life of a black man forced into slavery in the 19th century. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Motion Picture of the Year in 2014.

In 2018, McQueen co-wrote and directed the heist film Widows, which was based on the 1983 tv series of the same name and featured an ensemble cast that included Viola Davis, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Debicki, Carrie Coon, Colin Farrell and Robert Duvall.
