Born and brought up in New Delhi, Subroto Paul is an Indian director, who works in the Hindi film industry. When he was in his teens, Subroto co-founded "Agantuk - Theatre of Thoughts" with Bhaskar Paul and they together have performed numerous shows in the Delhi/NCR region. Around this time Subroto also performed in West Bengal and was deeply influenced by its culture. He considers renowned singer Nachiketa Chakraborty his idol. When he was at Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts and Communication, Subroto wrote and directed the short- "Road to Nowhere". The film based on substance abuse, won an award for the Best Educational Film in the 17th UGC-CEC Film Festival, held in Pune. He was initially employed with news channels, NDTV and Sahara India. Subroto also co-founded the television and video production company Timeline Media Factory (TMF), based in New Delhi. He directed several TVC's for various brands. Subroto's TVC for Centum Learning Limited was awarded the Best Corporate Film in Star Awards 7th Indy's Film Festival, Mumbai. From there he went on to be associated with the Star TV show, Mano Ya Na Mano, a show based on real incidents.

Subroto entered the Hindi film industry in 2015 as an assistant director with the romantic-comedy, Love Exchange. He next worked as the second assistant director on Ram Gopal Varma's biographical crime-drama, Veerappan in 2016. In 2018 Subroto made his directorial debut with the murder mystery, Nirdosh. Pradeep Rangwani has also served as the director on the movie. The cast includes Arbaaz Khan, Mukul Dev, Manjari Phadnis, Mahek Chahal and Ashmit Patel in pivotal roles.
