Considered to be one of the most popular authors in the modern day Tamil literature, Sujatha Rangarajan was one of the best Tamil authors and writers, who in his illustrious career penned more than 100 novels, 250 short stories and many plays and poems. A regular contributor to many Tamil periodicals and magazines such as Kumudam, Kalki, and Ananda Vikatan, his columns were widely popular among the masses. The superstar writer also served as the chief editor of Kumudam for a brief period, apart from writing screenplay and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

An engineer by profession, he was responsible for supervising the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at the Bharat Electronics Limited. Apart from the numerous novels, novella, plays, and poems published by him, Sujata made his debut as a writer for a feature film with Gaayathri (1977) and over the years contributed as a writer in more than 20 films. Some of his most notable film credits include Roja (1922), Uyire (1998), Kandukondian Kandukondain (2000), Boys (2003), Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004), Sivaji (2007), Dasaavathaaram (2008) and Enthiran (2010).
