Known for his work in the Bengali film industry, Sumit Ganguly is mainly seen playing supporting roles in movies, having made his debut in 1993 with Tomar Rakte Amar Sohag. After featuring in Kencho Khoondte Keute (1993) and Phirite Dao (1994), the actor was next seen eight years later in the 2002 Bengali drama Desh.

Among his other movie credits are Bombaiyer Bombete, Jor, Mahakaal, Janatar Adalat, Bolo Na Tumi Amar, Rahasya the Bhoutik, Herogiri, Rater Rajanigandha, and Mahanayak Uttamkumar to name a few. His 2020 release includes Jio Jamai, directed by Nehal Dutta.
