Sumita Sanyal was an Indian film actress who predominantly worked in the Hindi and Bengali film industry. She was born as Manjula Sanyal in Darjeeling, British India. She had acted over in 50 Bengali movies where films like Khokababur Pratyabartan (1960), Nayak (1968), and Sagina Mahato (1970) opposite Dilip Kumar being the most notable ones. Sumita made her Bollywood debut with Hrishikesh Mukherjee`s Aashirwad (1968). She later paired with Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna for Anand (1971), which became one of the biggest hits of her career. In the same year, Sumita featured in films like Guddi and Mere Apne. Her last screen appearance came in the British drama film The Peacock Spring (1996).
