Sumitra Devi, a.k.a. Nilima Chattopadhyay was an Indian film actress who is recognized for her works in the Hindi and Bengali film industry. She is best known for her film Mamta (1952), directed by Dada Gunjal. Sumitra was one of the exquisite beauties of her time and regarded as the most beautiful woman by actors such as Uttam Kumar and Pradeep Kumar. Some of her best works include Mashaa (1950), Deewana (1952), Saheb Bibi Golam (1956), and Mayurpankh (1954). Sumitra Debi received a Bengal Film Journalists` Association Award - Best actor, for her role in the movie, Sandhi (1944). In her late fifties, she was invited to the Asian Film Festival in China as a delegate from India.
