Surya Kumari was an Indian actress, dancer and singer born on November 13, 1925 in Rajamundry, Andhra Pradesh. She was the first Miss Madras and was the cultural ambassador for the Guild of Service. Some of the films she has worked in include Maradhalu pilli (1952), Ram Aur Rahim (1968) and Raithubidha (1939). She has won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Actress for playing Queen Sudarshana in Rabindranath Tagore's Off-Broadway play The King Of The Dark Chamber in 1961.
