Since his debut in the 2011 romantic comedy Salt N` Pepper, Syam Pushkaran has penned the screenplay for several acclaimed Malayalam films. However, he is perhaps best known for writing the comedy-drama Maheshinte Prathikaaram (2016), which went on to become a blockbuster and won several awards that year, including the National and State Film Awards for Best Screenplay. The screenwriter is known for his frequent collaborations with directors like Aashiq Abu and Dileesh Pothan, and fellow writer Dileesh Nair, with whom he has scripted movies like Da Thadiya (2012), Idukki Gold (2013) and Mayaanadhi (2017). Other significant film credits include 22 Female Kottayam (2012), Iyobinte Pusthakam (2014), Mayaanadhi (2017) and Kumbalangi Nights (2019).
