The System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal based in Glendale, California. The band was formed in 1994 and is sometimes called System or SOAD. Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Dhavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan are the current members of the band. They have released five studio albums since their inception and have achieved commercial success. Three of the five albums debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The band has also been nominated four times for the Grammy awards. Between August 2006 and November 2010, the group briefly disbanded. Since their reunion, they have been continuously touring selling over 40 million records worldwide. The members initially were part of a band called Soil but after the band disbanded, they came together to form System of a Down.
