Best known for her role in the critically acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par, which was India's official entry to Academy Awards, Tisca Chopra is a versatile artist. She is an actress, theatre artist, author, and producer who has worked in more 45 features film across different languages and has collaborated with several eminent names in the Indian film industry including Nagesh Kukunoor, Prakash Jha, Aamir Khan and Anup Singh to name a few.
Born in a humble family of educationists in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, Tisca graduated from the Apeejay School, Noida and later went to the Hindu College, the University of Delhi to study English literature. Whilst in college, Tisca wrote for several publications and started acting in many amateur theatre groups. After completing her education, she moved to Mumbai and to pursue a career in the film industry and she took training lessons under the tutelage of notable theatre artists like Feroz Abbas Khan and Naseeruddin Shah.
The grand-niece of the acclaimed former writer, Kushwant Singh, Tisca made her debut in the film industry with 15th August in 1993 where she played a small role. Just like many other newcomers to the film industry, Tisca too had her share of struggles, during her initial days, she found it difficult to find meaty roles in films.
She appeared in many unnoticeable smaller roles in films like I Love India (1993), Taqdeerwala (1995), Karobaar: The Business of Love (2000), before eventually getting her big break with Taare Zameen Par in 2007. Her role as Maya Awasthy, the mother of a child suffering from dyslexia not only won her wide appreciation from both critics and the audience but also won her maiden Stardust Award for Best Supporting Actress and Filmfare nomination. Her other notable film credits include Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011), The Hungry (2017), 3 Dev (2018) and Lashtam Pashtam (2018).
Apart from being successful in the film industry, Tisca has also achieved incredible success as a TV model. Regarded as the best-dressed actress, Tisca has been the bran ambassador for several renowned brands like Tanishq, Olay, Horlicks, Godrej, Kellogs, and Marks & Spencers.
