Identified with the New Queer Cinema movement, Todd Haynes is an independent director, screenwriter and producer. Some of his significant and controversial works include Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (1988), Poison (1991), Safe (1995), Velvet Goldmine (1998) and Far from Heaven (2002). His films have received several Academy Award nominations. His next film, Carol, is set to release in February, 2016.
