In his illustrious career spanning more than six decades, Tony Curtis, a popular yesteryear American actor starred in more than 100 films across different genres ranging from light comedy to serious drama. Known to be one of the best looking actors during the 1950s and the 1960s, Curtis in the early part of career starred mostly in average grossing films before eventually gaining wide popularity and success with his role in Houdini (1953). He subsequently starred in films like Sweet Smell of Success (1957), The Defiant Ones (1958), Some Like It Hot (1959) and Operation Petticoat (1959), which established him as an accomplished actor. His career was like a roller-coaster after the initial dull and the subsequent rise, his career and stardom went downhill during the 1960s. In 2006, the actor received the Sony Ericsson Empire Lifetime Achievement Award. The same year, the actor contracted pneumonia and went into a coma for more than a month. Two years later, in July 2010, Curtis suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and in September 2010 he passed away due to cardiac arrest.
